Co-Create With The Universe
Align Your Mind with Universal Laws [Part 8]
Ever had one of those "aha" moments where everything just clicks, and you feel like you're tapping into something bigger than yourself? Welcome forward. In Part 7 of this modernization of Thomas Troward’s Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science, we explored Receptivity—the art of tuning into the universal intelligence, or God, that's always broadcasting wisdom and possibilities. We learned that being receptive isn't about sitting around waiting; it's about actively aligning ourselves to receive divine guidance, much like adjusting a radio dial to catch that perfect song.
Now in Part 8, we're diving deeper into this cosmic connection by examining the Reciprocal Action of the Universal and Individual Minds. We'll uncover how our minds don't just passively receive information from the Divine Mind but actually engage in a dynamic two-way conversation. By understanding this reciprocal relationship, we can become co-creators with God, intentionally shaping our reality through a harmonious partnership.
So get ready to elevate your understanding of how you interact with the universe. We're entering a new dimension of conscious creation.
Viewing Spiritual Phenomena Through a Scientific Lens
As students of Mental Science—our job is to look at even the most spiritual stuff through a scientific lens. Think of it like analyzing the universe's code rather than getting lost in mystical interpretations. If we stick to the facts as they present themselves, a lot of those heavy theological concepts start making sense.
Now, don't get me wrong—the personal touch of this universal spirit that's in everything is super important. But remember, we're still dealing with a natural power that shows up everywhere in all sorts of forms—people, animals, inanimate objects, you name it. This power is like a universal support system for humanity, working on a 'law of averages' to keep things moving forward. What this power becomes for you depends entirely on how you recognize it. If someone can't see beyond that basic level, that's as deep as their relationship goes. But as you start to see more, this intelligent power opens up more to you, and you begin to feel a close partnership between your individual mind and its universal source—God.
Reflection Point: Can you recall a time when you felt guided by a higher power or experienced a moment of inspiration that seemed divinely inspired? How might that experience relate to this interplay between your individual mind and the Divine Mind?
The Science of Mind and Its Creative Power
This relationship between us and the cosmic mind is exactly what science would predict—assuming the cosmic mind is like our subconscious mind (and we've got good reasons to think so). Think about it: as a subconscious mind, it mirrors exactly what our conscious mind (working through our own subconscious) impresses upon it. And since it's also creative, it shapes the external world to match that conception. Like the saying goes, "to each their own"—everyone's life reflects their own idea of the Universal Mind.
The person who realizes they can, through natural laws of the mind, bring the Universal Mind into perfect sync with their own will find it to be an endless source of wisdom and power. They'll smartly switch between viewing their own mind and the Universal Mind as personal or impersonal, depending on the need. When seeking guidance or strength, they'll see their own mind as impersonal, ready to receive wisdom from the Greater Mind. When it's time to act, they'll flip it—considering their mind as the personal force, directing the impersonal Universal Mind by impressing their desires upon it. This might sound like a big leap, but it's just the natural outcome of how our conscious and subconscious minds interact. The real question is: will we limit ourselves to the surface level, or will we dive deeper to tap into the endless possibilities the subconscious offers?
The Law of Supply and the Nature of Intuition
I've gone on about this because it's the key to two big topics: the Law of Supply and the nature of Intuition. People often get how the mind can influence the body—since they're so closely connected—but have a harder time grasping how it can affect the world around us. If thought-power was limited to just our own minds, that'd be a problem. But here's the thing: thought-power isn't stuck inside our heads. We're aiming a limitless force that's way bigger than ourselves. This force is intelligent but impersonal; it picks up on our personal vibes and can impact way beyond what we can see or imagine.
That's why I emphasize the blend of two seeming opposites in the Universal Mind: it's both intelligent and impersonal. The intelligence lets it pick up on our thoughts, and the impersonality means it figures out the best way to make them happen. It's like having a super-smart assistant who doesn't have its own agenda but is incredibly efficient at executing yours. This all makes sense if we accept that we're dealing with infinite Intelligence that's also infinite Life—attributes we associate with God. Life equals power, so infinite life equals limitless power. And limitless power guided by limitless intelligence isn't going to just give up halfway—it sees things through. So if the Universal Mind sets its mind on something, it's gonna happen.
But wait—what's the Universal Mind's intention? Here's where its impersonality comes in. It doesn't have intentions of its own because it's designed to support the overall progress of life. Like I mentioned, the Universal Mind operates by a sort of "law of averages" to advance humanity as a whole. It's not bothered with individual whims unless they align with this forward movement. If what you want is in sync with this life-affirming direction, nothing in nature can stop you from getting it. But if you're going against the grain, you'll collide with this unstoppable force, and trust me, you don't want that—it'll steamroll you.
Reflection Point: Do you often find yourself trying to control every aspect of your life's outcomes? How might releasing this need for control and trusting in God's divine wisdom change your experience?
Aligning Personal Will with Divine Purpose
So, the willpower you feel inside you is like a personal version of a bigger principle in the Universal Mind—a Law of Tendency. And this tendency always aims towards promoting life because the Universal Mind is the raw life-force of the universe—an expression of God's will. So here's the litmus test: is your intention promoting growth, life, and advancement? If yes, then you can be totally sure that the Universal Mind isn't gonna block you. Remember, it's an impersonal force—it won't get in your way with its own agenda any more than gravity or electricity would.
So when we put together these two sides of the Universal Mind—its total impersonality and its perfect intelligence—we get exactly the kind of natural force we need. It's like tapping into an infinite power source that adapts to your needs without question. Once it's on the job, it brings an intelligence and power to the table that's beyond anything humanity combined could muster.
Now, I might be putting this a bit plainly, but I want you to really get the nature of this power and how to use it. Basically, you're not trying to control the entire universe here; you just want to bring specific benefits—whether physical, mental, moral, or financial—into your life or someone else's. From your personal standpoint, the universal creative power doesn't have its own agenda, so you can program it with yours. Once you set its mind (so to speak), it doesn't stop being the creative force; it immediately starts working to fulfill the purpose you've given it. And unless you (the one who started this) disrupt the process with doubt or conflicting thoughts, it'll keep working through the natural law of growth until it shows up in your reality.
Trusting the Process and Embracing Divine Timing
When we work with this vast, impersonal intelligence, we're tapping into the infinite—it connects everywhere. So it's not hard to grasp that this intelligence can pull together whatever is needed from any corner of the world to get the job done. Knowing this, we need to stop obsessing over how exactly it's going to happen. Wondering about the specific ways is just planting seeds of doubt—the very thing we need to avoid. Instead of trying to predict every little cause and effect that will lead to our goal, our mental energy should focus on understanding the general law that sets these chains of events in motion.
Reflection Point: How can you align your current goals with God's will? What steps can you take to set clear, life-affirming intentions that harmonize with divine purpose?
If we use our intellect to nitpick the details, it actually becomes our worst enemy—it ramps up our doubts because it's trying to grab hold of specifics that are currently beyond its reach. Our intellect should be used to reinforce our understanding of how the Universal Mind works, not to question its methods. It can grasp that there's a law that brings unseen circumstances into reality, even if it can't see all the steps along the way.
When we use our intellect properly, it supports that deeper power within us—the one that shapes the unseen stuff of the universe, which we might call the "relative first cause." Think of this inner power as the spark that sets everything in motion. By maintaining a clear and focused intention—a mental nucleus—we provide a center from which growth and manifestation can occur. So, let your intellect be the sidekick to that inner divine power, and together, they'll help you navigate and manipulate the unseen forces that shape our reality.
Preparing for the Next Step in Conscious Creation
Now that we've delved into the Reciprocal Action of the Universal and Individual Minds, we've uncovered how we can actively participate in shaping our reality alongside the Divine Mind. By aligning our intentions with God's infinite intelligence and life-giving principles, we've learned that we're not just passive recipients but co-creators in the grand design of the universe. We've explored how our thoughts, when harmonized with divine will, set into motion a powerful creative process that can manifest our deepest desires.
But this is just the beginning. Understanding this dynamic interplay opens the door to even deeper insights. The next crucial piece of the puzzle is examining the Causes and Conditions that influence how our intentions unfold in the physical world. How exactly do our thoughts initiate a chain of events that lead to tangible results? What is the role of our conscious and subconscious minds in setting these causes into motion?
In Part 9: Causes and Conditions, we'll dive into the mechanics of how the Universal Mind responds to our individual thoughts within the framework of natural and divine laws. We'll explore the concept of the "relative first cause"—our ability to set primary causes in motion through our intentions—and how understanding the difference between causes and conditions empowers us to break free from limitations.
Are you excited to continue this journey of conscious creation? The universe—and the Divine Mind—is eager to reveal more of its secrets to you.
